SMA Collaborates With Daimler Subsidiary ACCUMULATIVE in the Field of Storage Solutions

SMA and Mercedes Collaborate with Energy Storage Solution. Available soon in Australia

SMA and Mercedes Collaborate with Energy Storage Solution. Available soon in Australia

SMA Solar Technology AG (SMA) is entering a long-term sales partnership in the field of stationary battery-storage systems with Deutsche ACCUMOTIVE GmbH & Co. KG, a wholly owned subsidiary of Daimler AG. In doing so, the business partners are responding to Germany’s continuously growing storage system market. The Mercedes-Benz energy storage system based on lithium-ion technology is designed with a capacity of up to 20 kWh for use in private households and features excellent compatibility with SMA’s Flexible Storage System. The SMA system stands out in particular for its seasonal adjustment of battery usage and forecast-based charging. Both of these features contribute significantly to increasing the battery’s service life.

With the combined solution of the Mercedes-Benz energy storage and the SMA Flexible Storage System, electrical energy can already be stored at costs comparable to German household electricity rates,” said SMA Chief Executive Officer Pierre-Pascal Urbon. “Thanks to our technological approach, we are able to configure the energy storage system to ensure optimal use of the power with regard to the user’s needs. With the Mercedes-Benz storage solution and SMA, private households can optimize the self-consumption of solar power they produce. The joint sales partnership means that we can respond to the promising market for stationary storage systems even better. For us, it is crystal clear that the future of the energy industry is decentralized and based on renewable energy. The use of stationary storage systems will not only speed up the energy transition but also create additional jobs in Germany.”

With the Sunny Island battery inverter, Sunny Home Manager and SMA Energy Meter as the key components, the SMA solution offers users of the low-voltage storage systems from Mercedes-Benz maximum flexibility and high quality. In particular, users benefit from the seasonal adjustment of battery usage, which contributes significantly to optimal use of the battery by considering the different weather conditions during the summer and winter months. “This is a unique advantage that reduces costs for users just as the forecast-based charging, which uses the integrated forecast to specifically charge the battery at times when solar irradiation levels are high,” said Volker Wachenfeld, Head of the Off-Grid and Storage business unit at SMA. According to Wachenfeld, if users also integrate energy monitoring into their system, they will receive an overview of all household energy flows via Sunny Home Manager, be able to visualize their yield forecast and electricity rates and to display recommended actions for increasing self-consumption and reducing electricity costs.

The home storage solution will be available in the Australian market early 2017. To register your interest please contact Save Energy Pty Ltd: info@saveenergyaus.com.au

Kyocera achieves 8.3% degradation on 20-year installation

Kyocera has released, what the company deems to be, conclusive evidence that its solar modules show only 8.3% degradation after 20 years. The Atomic Energy and Alternative Energies Commission (CEA) used a sample from Kyocera’s 945W roof installation in the small village of Lhuis, Lyon, France, to test under laboratory conditions. The results demonstrate that the modules were still performing at 91.7% of their original maximum power output.

The installation, commissioned in 1992 by Hespul, a French non-profit organization, consists of 15 modules each with an output of 63W.

The company enthuses that its solar modules were the first in the world to pass the ‘Long Term Sequential test’ as certified by TÜV Rheinland, the leading provider of product performance testing, which conducted a series of rigorous tests to predict long-term life and performance of a solar module. The Kyocera Solar module is the first module to pass these long-term tests, further underscoring Kyocera’s proven product performance. In addition the non-profit Fraunhofer Center for Silicon Photovoltaics CSP’s  demonstrated that Kyocera’s modules did not show any potential induced degradation (PID) after being subjected to high voltage stress testing test.

At the time Tatsumi Maeda, general manager of the Kyocera Group said, “As a pioneer in the industry Kyocera has been involved in R&D and manufacturing of solar power generating systems for more than 35 years and in that time we have developed numerous innovations and manufacturing technologies to ensure the high quality and long-term durability of our products.”

FRONIUS SYMO HYBRID BATTERY MANAGER: NOW AVAILABLE IN AUSTRALIA

IFronius Symo Hybrid battery solar inverter Western Australian innovate mindset is the absolute basic foundation for enduring success. The Plus X Award distinguishes products that are innovative and viable for the future and possess at least one “Plus X” factor – innovations that simplify our lives, make them more enjoyable and are ecologically meaningful are distinguished by the Plus X Award. The Fronius Symo Hybrid has received the Plus X Award in six out of seven categories.

The Fronius Symo Hybrid inverter was recently singled out for praise, receiving the PLUS X AWARD1 in six out of seven categories. In the areas of innovation, high quality, design, ease of use, functionality and ecology, the SnapINverter is regarded as an outstanding and innovative, high-quality product. What’s more, it was crowned the “Best Product of 2015/2016” in the “Energy and Lighting” category.

“We are extremely pleased that, following the Fronius Galvo and the Fronius Symo, the third SnapINverter, the Fronius Symo Hybrid, has now been honoured with the Plus X Award too. This shows that we are on the right path in developing high-quality, innovative solutions for our customers,” commented the head of division, Martin Hackl.

The Fronius Symo Hybrid inverter is the centrepiece of the Fronius storage solution. It helps to make solar energy available 24 hours a day. Multi Flow Technology, which enables intelligent, parallel control of the energy flows and is therefore essential to the optimum use of a storage system, is integrated as standard. The inverter regulates the energy flows so that the highest possible level of self-supply is attained.

The free Fronius Solar.web online monitoring tool and the corresponding Fronius Solar.web App allow the system operator to conveniently monitor the photovoltaic yields and all the energy flows within the system.

Fronius is also responsible for further innovative solutions, namely a type 1+2 surge arrester as an additional option for the Fronius Symo and Fronius Eco inverters, and the Fronius Power Package, which offers greater flexibility thanks to the new option of combining two inverters.

Integrated overvoltage protection cuts costs
Depending on the different lightning protection provisions in the individual regions, a type 1 DC surge arrestor may be required. In order to satisfy this requirement and also to help its customers cut system costs, Fronius now offers a type 1+2 combination surge arrestor2 as an option for the Fronius Symo3 and Fronius Eco SnapINverters.

“Previously, if a type 1 DC surge arrestor was required, the customer would have had to use an additional DC connector box, as up until now it was not possible for the majority of inverter manufacturers to install this within the inverter. With the new option, we offer our customers an economical and simple solution,” remarks Jürgen Hürner, Product Manager at Fronius.

The advantages of two inverters united in a single package
With larger-scale photovoltaics projects, project planners are repeatedly faced with challenges such as complex shading scenarios4 or short string lengths5. Fronius has taken this issue in its stride and developed a suitable solution. The cost-effective Fronius Eco can now be combined with the flexible Fronius Symo in the Fronius Power Package6 system solution.

In addition to the usual advantages of the Fronius Power Package, such as simple installation or flexible data communication, the new combination option brings even greater flexibility to the system. The entire solution is completed with an AC combiner that is perfectly adapted to the inverter. And as if there were not already enough, the finished complete package is delivered on a pallet.

“The uniform inverter platform, which makes life easier for our customers while simultaneously saving them time and money, is unique. Furthermore, Fronius is currently the only company to offer an AC combiner that is perfectly adapted to the inverters in this power category,” explains Jürgen Hürner.

Besides the RedDot and the IF Design Award, the Plus X Award is one of the best-known international design and innovation prizes for products from the fields of technology, sport and lifestyle. Innovations that make life easier, look better and more ecologically sound are rewarded. For purchasers, the mark of quality constitutes a powerful purchase recommendation at the point of sale.
